How does Xeldrin 20mg Capsule work?

Xeldrin 20mg Capsule reduces the quantity of acid generated in the stomach by permanently adhering to and blocking the hydrogen-potassium ATPase pump found on the digestive tract's lining. This type of activity aids in the reduction of vomiting and the mending of damaged stomach tissue in ulcers.

Side Effects of Xeldrin 20mg Capsule
  • Stomach pain
  • Gas formation (flatulence)
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
Quick Suggestions:
  • Avoid eating late at night or before bedtime: Eating close to bedtime can trigger symptoms of acid reflux. It is advisable to have your last meal at least 2-3 hours before lying down.
  • Inform your doctor about persistent symptoms: If you experience watery diarrhea, fever, or stomach pain that does not go away while taking Xeldrin 20mg, it is important to inform your doctor as these could be signs of a more serious condition that requires attention.
  • Long-term use and bone health: Prolonged use of Xeldrin 20 can lead to weakened bones and mineral deficiencies, such as magnesium. It is recommended to ensure an adequate intake of calcium and magnesium through diet or supplements as prescribed by your doctor.
  • Avoid trigger foods and drinks: Acid or heartburn-triggering foods and drinks, such as onions, peppermint, chocolate, citrus fruits or juices, tomatoes, high-fat, and spicy foods, should be avoided to minimize symptoms.
  • Elevation while sleeping: Elevating the head and chest by raising the bedhead or using a single raised block can help prevent stomach acid from flowing back into the food pipe during sleep.
  • Avoid alcohol and smoking: Alcohol consumption can increase the production of stomach acid, leading to heartburn and acid reflux. Smoking damages the valve that prevents acid reflux. It is advisable to avoid alcohol and smoking.
  • Include beneficial foods: Incorporate high-fiber foods, berries, cherries, leafy green vegetables (kale, spinach), and black peppers into your diet. These foods are rich in antioxidants, calcium, and vitamin B12, which can help mitigate the long-term effects of the medication. Probiotic-rich fermented dairy products like miso, sauerkraut, and kimchi can aid in preventing excessive stomach acid production. Cranberry juice may be beneficial in managing peptic ulcers and H. pylori infections.
  • Avoid prolonged sitting: Taking regular breaks from sitting and engaging in brisk walking or stretching every hour can help reduce stomach acid production.
  • Do not stop medication without consulting your doctor: It is important to continue taking Xeldrin 20 as prescribed and not discontinue the medication without consulting your doctor.
  • Watch out for kidney-related symptoms: If you experience decreased urination, edema (swelling), lower back pain, nausea, fatigue, rash, or fever, it is essential to consult your doctor promptly as these could be signs of a kidney problem.

  • Ulcers in the stomach and duodenum: Xeldrin 20mg Capsule helps in healing and preventing the recurrence of ulcers in the stomach and the upper part of the intestine (duodenum).
  • Duodenal and stomach ulcers caused by NSAIDs: Xeldrin 20mg Capsule can be used as a preventive measure in patients with a history of ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
  • Gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD): Xeldrin 20mg Capsule is effective in treating GERD, a condition in which stomach acid flows back into the esophagus, causing symptoms such as heartburn, nausea, vomiting, and discomfort in the upper abdomen.
  • Acid reflux disease management over time: Xeldrin 20mg Capsule is used for the long-term management of acid reflux disease, helping to reduce symptoms and prevent complications.
  • Dyspepsia caused by stomach acid: Xeldrin 20mg Capsule can provide relief from dyspepsia, a condition characterized by indigestion, stomach discomfort, and pain caused by excessive stomach acid.
  • Reflux esophagitis with ulcers: Xeldrin 20mg Capsule is effective in treating reflux esophagitis, a condition in which the lining of the esophagus becomes inflamed and develops ulcers due to acid reflux.
  • Acid aspiration prevention during general anesthesia: Xeldrin 20mg Capsule may be used to reduce the risk of acid aspiration, a condition where stomach acid enters the airways, during general anesthesia.
Pharmacology

Omeprazole, a substituted benzimidazole, is a stomach acid secretion inhibitor. It reduces gastric acid output by inhibiting the ATPase H + / K + enzyme system in the parietal cells of the stomach. After oral administration, the antisecretory action begins in one hour, peaks in two hours, and the suppression of secretion lasts up to 72 hours. After discontinuing the medicine, secretory activity will gradually return over the next 3-5 days.

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Xeldrin 20mg Capsule is generally considered safe for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, but it should be taken only after consulting with a doctor.
  • Pre-existing conditions: Inform your doctor if you have stomach or intestinal cancer, liver problems, or if you are allergic to Xeldrin 20mg Capsule.
  • Endoscopy: If you are scheduled to have an endoscopy in the future, it is important to discuss with your doctor whether you should stop taking Xeldrin 20mg Capsule a few weeks before the procedure. This is because the medication may mask certain problems that would otherwise be detected during the endoscopy.
  • Risk of fractures: Prolonged use of Xeldrin 20mg Capsule may be associated with an increased risk of osteoporosis-related fractures, particularly in the hip, wrist, or spine. This risk is related to the potential loss of magnesium. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Yes, some people may have constipation after using Xeldrin 20mg Capsule . To counteract this impact, consume fiber-rich meals such as fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grain cereals, and lots of fluids. Stay active by exercising more frequently (such as going for a daily stroll). Consult your doctor if the condition persists.

Xeldrin 20mg Capsule should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years) due to increased risk of fractures, especially if used in higher doses and over long durations (>1 year). Consult your doctor for advice before taking Xeldrin 20mg Capsule.

Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are the most used medicines for acid reflux. Omeprazole, Esomeprazole, Rabeprazole and Pantoprazole are a few examples of proton pump inhibitors. However, these medicines should only be used after consulting a doctor.

Yes, you should always take this medicine at least 40 mins before food, preferably in the morning before breakfast.

No Xeldrin 20mg Capsule is not an antibiotic medicine

Xeldrin 20mg Capsule starts showing its maximum effect within 1-2 hours after taking this medicine. You should start to feel better within 2 to 3 days to work fully and control your symptoms.

Patients with cardiac disease can take this drug as prescribed by the doctor.

It can induce osteoporosis (bone thinning) because it reduces calcium absorption, resulting in calcium insufficiency. Long-term usage increases the risk of bone fractures, such as hip, wrist, or spine fractures. Before beginning your therapy, tell your doctor if you have osteoporosis or if you are taking corticosteroids (which might raise your risk of osteoporosis). Consult your doctor for advice on how to avoid this. To lower the risk, your doctor may recommend calcium or vitamin D supplements.

It can lead to vitamin B12 and C insufficiency. When taken orally, vitamin B12 requires an acidic environment in the stomach for absorption, whereas this medication reduces gastric acid output. You may also need to take vitamin B12 pills. Because the therapeutic relevance of the drop in vitamin C levels is unknown, vitamin C supplementation is not advised.
